Women in Leadership and Women in Ministry

in

In 2006, the National Board of the Vineyard USA said this: "In response to the message of the Kingdom, the leadership of the Vineyard USA will encourage, train and empower women in all levels of leadership both local and translocal. The movement as a whole welcomes the participation of women in leadership in all areas of ministry."

We have two new national Vineyard task forces to tell you about, with two separate but congruent missions. Both will serve the whole Vineyard, but in different ways, with different leadership teams and using different vehicles to get their task done.

The Women in Leadership Task Force led by Dianne Leman exists to empower Vineyard women who are called and gifted to function in senior leadership roles in the local church, regional, and national structures. Her team consists of both men and women and will work with systems and structures within the Vineyard to help them become more open to and user-friendly for emerging women senior leaders.

The Women in Ministry Task force led by Cindy Nicholson exists to provide opportunities for modeling recognition and blessing of all gifts, callings and cultures. She leads with a core team of Adrienne (Adey) Wassink and Cheryll Hanawalt along with coordinators in each region, and will focus on providing equipping and resources for women all over the Vineyard from the newcomer in the local church to the women leading churches and ministries.

You'll see more on these pages of the website in the months ahead, with information on events, resources, web links, reading lists, and more. But we wanted you to know about these newly launched task forces right from the start. We know that the desire of both teams is to be of benefit to the whole Vineyard, not just the women, and to see the Vineyard continue to become the clear reflection of the Kingdom of God that we long to be.

Thanks for posting this, Cindy. I love being a part of the Vineyard movement. I am so thankful that the movement welcomes the participation of women in leadership in all areas of ministry. It has been so affirming being a part of a Vineyard church!

Thanks so much for your comment, Thomas! That was very healing for me to have a man say those things.

I have recently come to the Vineyard and am thus not fully vineyardized, please bear with me.
I love what I am reading here. Women belong at the helm, Women belong in the pulpit, Women belong behind the lectern and at the head of departments. I cannot think of a position where women were not "born to lead" and I will support and militantly contend for their place-In Leadership.
Women were created last, I believe they are the crown of creation. We are complimentary, men and women are. And as far as men ruling over women, well guys, I'll fight you for the servants towel and the washbasin. The ruler must be servant of all...
As Christian Men, we need to be there for the women The Lord has put in our lives, and help them achieve. We have millennia of gender slavery to purge from our culture, institutions, and mythology. We can no longer tolerate Christo-chauvinism in our schools, our churches, in our homes and most of all in our hearts.
Blessings on you all as you seek to lead and build the Kingdom which shall have no end.

I appreciate your statement that these task force teams will be a "benefit to the whole Vineyard, not just the women," and ultimately a clearer reflection of the Kingdom of God. Too often women's ministries focus only on the benefits to women or even worse, they attempt to satisfy what women say they want (ugh). I thank God for what he is doing in the Vineyard. It is exciting and far greater than a gender issue.

I also appreciate the additional focus on women in ministry beyond senior leadership. I would like to see that team include discussions on the significant number of women who are called to minister outside of the local church.
