A Vineyard Approach to Blessing Muslims

Christian-Muslim relations comprise one of the momentous challenges of the 21st century. The relationship between Christians and Muslims is supercharged by terrorism and exacerbated by the fact that western countries are perceived as "Christian" by many Muslims. Negative stereotypes of Muslims, and ignorance has caused the church to shrink back from Jesus' commands to love and to make disciples. How then can the Vineyard be agents of peace and faithfully bear witness to Christ in such a polarized world? What does a Vineyard approach to blessing Muslims look like?

God has blessed the Vineyard with a unique impartation of power, a heart of compassion and a desire to bless people. We have a stewardship. We are blessed to be a blessing. Or more accurately, we are blessed to bless all nations (Gen 12:1-3; Ps 67). When we think of a Vineyard approach to blessing Muslims we can't help but picture Vineyardites laying hands on Muslims all over the world. Praying for healing, deliverance, and blessing them in Jesus name. Muslims are highly receptive to prayer in Jesus name since Jesus was a great miracle worker in the Qu'ran.

A brief look at some of our core values shows how God has prepared the Vineyard for "such a time as this!" We are uniquely poised and prepared to bless Muslims: Our commitment to being a "reconciling community" means that we build bridges between Christians and Muslims. We seek to become peacemakers -- in our attitudes toward Muslims and in our relationships with Muslims. As one expression of this, a number of Vineyard pastors, burdened for the plight of the Palestinians are seeking ways to work towards peace and a just solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Our commitment to "compassionate ministry" compels us to bless Muslims.

Approximately 60% of the world's poor and 80% of the world's refugees are Muslim. As those who have received mercy, we cannot help but demonstrate the mercy of Christ to these needy neighbors - no strings attached. Our commitment to "culturally relevant witness" means that we promote creative, entrepreneurial, and innovative approaches to blessing Muslims. We are committed to demonstrating and declaring the beauty and power of Jesus in ways that make sense to Muslims. Our commitment to "kingdom theology and practice" moves us to bear witness to the kingdom among all peoples, including Muslims. Thus, we seek to manifest the kingdom in our words and deeds, through physical and emotional healing, doing justice, and exalting Jesus among the world's 1.3 billion Muslims.

Society of Vineyard Scholars (SVS)

Vineyard USA is launching a new initiative, the Society of Vineyard Scholars (SVS). We are gathering the thinkers and scholars of our movement to “think theologically” in community—both in order to address the critical questions of the moment and to send down theological and intellectual roots for the long haul.

The Diversity of Language on the topic of Diversity

An intriguing challenge that often arises when we have conversations about ethnic diversity is the challenge of what words to use.

Case in point, our upcoming Diverse Pastor Projects had a subtitle using the phrase "people of color" which is a hotly debated phrase. Some people love it. Some people hate it. Some people are indifferent because even if they are an ethnic minority, the color of their skin is white and not a color. But then, isn't white a color too?!

Kids Ministry Task Force

The mission of the Kids’ Ministry Task Force is to speak up for kids. Our goal is to support Vineyard Churches as they reach out to kids by creating a body of peers who can provide support, encouragement and problem solving ideas.

Youth Task Force

In January 2009 Craig Beyer was selected as the National Youth Task Force Director. Craig is one of the founding members of Vineyard North Phoenix and has been a board member, small group leader, Children's and Youth ministry leader. In March 1999, he joined the North Phoenix staff as full-time Youth Pastor. He has served as a youth task force member in the Southwest Region for 6 years.

Craig and his wife Tami have four children: Alecia, Amy, Lindsay, and Adam.

Worship Task Force

Purpose:

The purpose of the Worship Task Force is to cultivate and empower the core value of worship in the Vineyard. The means by which we will accomplish this is as follows:

• Encourage and develop an authentic sense of community and connectedness amongst the worship leaders of American Vineyard churches.

• Provide pastoral care for the worship leading community.

• Provide avenues for equipping and training in theology, heart, and skill surrounding worship leadership.

Mercy Response Partnership

Mission: Responding to Crisis and Suffering with Kingdom Mercy and Hope

Mercy Response has recently undergone some changes effective September 1, 2011. It is no longer a ministry administered through the national office of Vineyard USA and is now a Partnership. The Vineyard Church of New Orleans will act as the leadership church and coordinate the efforts of the Mercy Response Partnership. A board of 4-6 people will be developed to represent the interests and carry out the vision.
