High Praise For Vineyard Music: Phil P.
I have a story that is a powerful testimony concerning Vineyard Music. It Is not recent, but it is still powerful.
In 1998 I was going to a church in Fremont, California called Mission Springs Community Church. At the time, I was living with a Christian roommate who was going to another church, but he felt God was calling him elsewhere. He got a recommendation from one of his church leaders about a non-denominational church in Sunnyvale, California called "The River."
My roommate showed me one of the Sunday worship folders, and I was very impressed. I sensed there was a lot of love there, but I didn't want to overreact. He invited me and one of his friends to go and see what it was like. I agreed, and in June we went. We got there early and saw that the worship services were being held in a basketball gym at the Sunnyvale Community Center with lots of chairs laid out and a stage set up with all of the sound equipment ready to go.
One of the leaders came to the front and welcomed everyone, said a few words, and then the worship team started to play. As soon as the music started, the waves of God's love started flowing deep in my heart. The tears came down my cheeks and I was experiencing the love of God, maybe as strong as I ever had. They kept playing, and I kept weeping. Each song had different feelings and emotions that seemed to be aroused in me. God was touching me deep inside and I wanted to hug everyone! I had never heard this music before.
I went up to the worship leader after the service was over and told him how profoundly the music had touched my heart. I could see the tears welling up in his eyes. He said 75 percent of what they played was from a series called "Touching the Father's Heart" from Vineyard Music as well as from Matt Redman and other artists.
As we left, I thanked my two friends profusely for bringing me here; the goodwill toward them was gushing out of me. A few days later I went to a Christian bookstore and started listening to the T.T.F.H. series. The waves started coming on me once again; I was experiencing the love of God right there in the bookstore. Over a period of time, I went out and bought around 20 Vineyard CDs, and I began looking for Vineyard churches in my area. I saw one in San Ramon and in 2001 I went to one of their services. Sure enough, they played the music and I began to weep with delight! I could tell there was something special here, and I began to attend almost every event they had. That began an 11-year love affair with that church and the Vineyard.
I am glad to report in the decade of the 2000s, God has allowed me to discover other artists whose music He has inhabited that has thrilled me to hear, and I know there is more to come.
